The Headgear and pumps used to drain the shaft. Sadly, the headgear is looking worse for wear, and may well be a sight of the past before too long. Not a bad monument to true Yorkshire grit though!

This is one half of the Twin Tandem Hydraulic engine, which ran on pressurised water from the surface at around 800psi. The engine generated around 40BHP and hauled the cages up and down the 132' shaft, found a full measured mile from the level mouth
